Amazing maps+Awesome concept-The slowest fast-paced arena shooter ever-Tough for new players to get into Did the dev of Kairo work on this game?As has been stated elsewhere, the fact that the figures look like Chess pieces is more to illustrate a point; there is little to correlate Urja to Chess beyond the superficial. The Entities, as they're referred to, are in a hierarchy fraught with tension. You, a pawn, can only attack those in the same class as you, lest the rest of the system come toppling down on you; Call for Help is an action in-game and those above you will rally the others if Pawn gets out of line. Actually, if you wander around the (beautiful!!) maps, it's kind of rare to see hostility between the other Entities. Even if you bump shoulders with one of them, it's not all that likely they'll attack you first. It seems you are, often, a lone revolutionary, striving to break free of the caste system. If you manage to assassinate a superior, you can impersonate them. The goal is to become King (of the Hill)(as in lone survivor). That apparent hesitation in the AI to engage on their own, the necessity to aim precisely, the quickness with which Energy drains / the absolutely chaotic seconds that punctuate the long moments of nothing; veterans of "arena shooters" might have to alter their connotation of the term. I must advise other new players to view the Community Guide here on Steam, and just watch the first few minutes of the video therein, otherwise one might be quick to write the game off entirely. Perish the thought that "Oh, but it'd be fun to learn the game on my own," no, especially since, what with Urja being nothing but an arena shooter, the goal is to get as good as quickly as possible. I feel like the desire to fully glean how the game works wouldn't outlast the patience that most would have in pursuing such a goal. And if one tried and then went to the Guide, it might actually sour the experience that much more. Check the corners of the screen when the game first boots up (don't instantly hit Play as I did); know that you can charge your shots (RMB); know you can shoot while leeching (LMB); know you can't jump, but you can lean around corners; realize that that bit of political bull♥♥♥♥♥♥ery I spouted earlier wasn't just bs, but actually part of the game. I recommend this game and don't think it's deserving of the Mixed user reviews at all, but I understand how the rating came to that.EDITed for spacing. Been playing for quite awhile and i have not finished a single stage. This game is hard. And i mean HARD! but it didn't stop me from playing. The entire concept is relatively new. I have never played anything like this before. Yes, it's FPS but it's not your typical FPS. You go berserk and shoot everything you see and you'll get everybody's attention and you'll drop dead in an instant. You have to do the killing methodically. Patience is a virtue in this game. P.S.Players must know chess or atleast be familiar with the pieces.. Don't let my low playtime fool you: that's all it took to realize how terrible this game is. Honestly.I like the idea, in theory. Chess pieces fighting against each other in a FPS-style is a great idea, and it could have been incredibly fun. But no. There's no tutorial to tell you any idea of what you should do, just a little question mark on the main screen that you might pass over if you're not paying attention (which I did). Once you realize the game isn't going to tell you what to do, and find your way back to the main screen and click that question mark, it basically just tells you "you're supposed to shoot the other pieces and steal their energy, good luck!" So now you know what to do. You go back to the game, shoot an enemy... and are immediately swarmed by every other piece in the surrounding area. It's uncanny how the other pieces are able to find you, they just sort of appear even when you didn't see any around. And unfortunately the AI has perfect aim, so you're dead within a few seconds. So you decide to try again, because you paid real money for this game, God damn it, and you're gonna get every penny's worth out of it if it's the last thing you do. And you die again. And again. And again. Then you get lucky and capture the Queen, so now you're the big dog with all the power, right? Wrong, enemies still kill you in just a couple of seconds, and you're no more effective at taking them out than you were as a pawn. The AI is ridiculously hard, they're all perfect shots and can drain your life in just a few seconds, while your own aim is extremely difficult because not only are you forced to aim for just a small ball at the base of the other pieces, because body shots are too mainstream and only shots to the energy ball count, but even if you somehow manage to drain a bit of energy from an enemy, that damn energy ball gets smaller and smaller which makes it nearly impossible to hit. If you're able to stun an enemy, it will spend 90% of it's (incredibly short) stunned time in midair or rolling along, where the body gets in the way of your aim at that damn energy ball. The levels are way too big for a game like this, and I found myself spending most of the time just wandering the level trying to find another piece somewhere. Once you finally sap all the energy from another piece, you can capture it. That should mean it's out of commission, right? Wrong. The enemy bishop will revive it. So you have to take out the enemy bishop too, or else you're facing an endless horde of enemies that can kill you super fast. In case you couldn't tell by now, I'm super frustrated with this POS game. This is one instance where it's true that the only way to win is to just not play.--------------------------------------------------------------------If you enjoy my reviews, why not follow my curation page? Click here to do that thing!. Urja is a hard game with some interesting mechanics . its not a bad game but its not worth 10$ . Once you turn on the game you are in game there is no story and no multiplayer . when you finaly finish a level the score board will appear, showing you how well you did and comparing it to other players.Controls can be found on their website ,if some one is having trouble with that. Overall i ain't feeling too bad about buying this game its fast paced fun title great for taking a 10 minute break from some stressfull deskjob or homework.pros:original fast paced easy to learn hard to get good chill musiccons:bloom effect might be too much for some players no normal interface AI can be annoying from time to time. What at first may come across as a rather simple game proves itself to be incredibly complex the more you play. Sometimes it is the games with the most basic layout that end up being the most entertaining, and this game is no exception to that. The difficult challenge that the game provides is enough to have you hooked for hours, despite the relative simplicity of the initial rules that are explained to you. The graphics are also pleasant on the eye, creating a somewhat neo-retro feel for the game.. No options and no mouse lock. You can fall off the maps and are forced to restart, it does not register that you have left the map and should place you back on the map. Reflections on the models are static reflection maps and look bad when moving.
